Labor Secretary Walsh Exiting Administration

He is the first Cabinet member of the Biden administration to leave.

Marty Walsh, the Secretary of Labor, is leaving President Biden’s administration to oversee the National Hockey League Players’ Association.

He is expected to depart within days. It is anticipated that his deputy secretary, Julie Su, will become the acting head of the department until a replacement is found and confirmed.

Officials say Secretary Walsh has played a critical role behind the scenes, bringing a combination of political and labor credentials to important discussions.

Walsh was previously the mayor of Boston. He offered to intervene in last year’s lockout between Major League Baseball and the players’ union.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Marty Walsh as he changes vocations.
  • For the individual who will take over the Labor Department as acting secretary.
  • For discernment for the president and his advisors as they consider who to nominate to the role.
