U.S. Endorses South Africa Energy Transition Plan

The investment plan receives continued support at COP27.

At the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Climate Envoy John Kerry joined South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to endorse the investment plan for the South Africa Just Energy Transition Partnership. The investment plan was announced at the COP26 and, over the last year, international partners have pledged $8.5 billion to bring the plan to reality, including $1 billion from the United States.

“Our support for South Africa’s clean energy and infrastructure priorities, which include efforts to provide coal miners and affected communities the assistance that they need in this transition, will help South Africa’s clean energy economy thrive,” President Biden said in response to the announcement.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Climate Envoy Kerry as he supports strategies for addressing climate change.
  • For wisdom for the president as he participates in COP27 and interacts with other leaders and ministers.
