Labor Department Recovers Wages for Franchise Employees

$608,272 in back wages returned to 33 workers in pizza company.

The Department of Labor has finalized its investigation into the operators of Mountain Mike’s Pizza in northern California, finding the franchise had violated the Fair Labor Standards Act in multiple ways. Last week, they required owners Sumeet Singh and Mandeep Saini to return $608,272 in overtime wages and damages to 33 employees, and fined them $13,058 for violating federal child labor laws.

“Employers whose pay practices violate the law face costly repayment of wages and damages,” said Wage and Hour Division District Director Susana Blanco in San Jose, California. “They may also find it more difficult to retain or recruit workers than their competitors whose actions show they respect workers’ rights and pay them their full wages.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Deputy Administrator Davidson as she oversees the Wage and Hour Division.
  • For Secretary Walsh to seek God’s direction as he heads the Labor Department.
  • For labor officials as they seek to prevent the exploitation of workers.
