USDA Announces New Equity Commission

Created to address class and racial inequality within department.

The Department of Agriculture announced last week that 15 members have been appointed to the newly formed Equity Commission and its Subcommittee on Agriculture. This commission is intended to help address discrimination within the USDA and will utilize the diverse group of experts in their first public meeting on February 28.

“USDA acknowledges we have not done enough to provide all farmers and ranchers an equal chance of success and prosperity, and we are striving to change that,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. “This Commission will support our work to build a USDA that does not ignore or leave anyone behind anyone as we dismantle barriers that historically underserved communities have faced in accessing USDA programs and services.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Vilsack as he seeks to implement equity policies.
  • For members of the commission to work without bias in their advisory capacity.
  • For the president as he promotes equity as part of his national agenda.
