In the News…

America’s general in charge of pulling troops from Afghanistan believes the security situation in the country is “not good” as American service members leave Afghan forces to fight the Taliban alone.

“I think that you’re seeing, just if you look at the security situation, it’s not good,” General Scott Miller said. “The Afghans have recognized it’s not good. The Taliban are on the move.”

The Taliban have quickly taken control of dozens of districts since U.S. forces began leaving in April. They have created conditions that “won’t look good for Afghanistan in the future if there is a push for a military takeover,” General Miller said.

He said the country could slide into a chaotic civil war and face “very hard times” unless its fractious civilian leadership unites and the haphazard array of armed groups joining the anti-Taliban fight are controlled and made accountable for their actions in battle.
