Stephen Hubbard returned to the United States after President Trump requested his release.
Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced on Wednesday, during a diplomatic meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, that American Stephen Hubbard had been released at President Donald Trump’s request, on humanitarian grounds, and was returning home to the United States. A native of Michigan, Hubbard was sentenced by Russia in 2022 on charges of fighting as a mercenary in Ukraine and imprisoned for more than four years.
Envoy Witkoff stated, “Stephen is a proud American citizen, retired teacher, and U.S. Air Force veteran who loves our country. Now, he is on his way back to a family who loves him, a President who never gave up on him, and a nation that proudly welcomes him home.”
As certain members of Congress have been critical of the president and his diesel deal with Russia, which opened up diplomatic discussions, Anna Paulina Luna responded, “President Trump is actively negotiating an end to the war in Ukraine and just successfully secured the release of Stephen Hubbard. And during this time, UNINFORMED members of the Senate and some members of the House are in opposition to his discussions?”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and U.S. officials as they work to secure the release of Americans who are wrongfully detained in other countries.
- For Envoy Witkoff and other U.S. diplomats as they negotiate with foreign leaders to end conflicts and free U.S. citizens.
- With gratitude to the Lord for the 110 Americans who have returned from foreign prisons during President Trump’s current term.
