House Bills Would Dilute Chinese Telecom Dominance

New proposals under consideration by House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Legislators in the House of Representatives are looking to curtail China’s increasing dominance in the telecommunications sphere. As many as nine varied proposals are under consideration at a hearing of the Energy and Commerce Committee. The proposed bills have a broad goal of lessening American dependence on Chinese hardware and addressing national security concerns over wireless networks from foreign entities.

Several of the pieces of legislation are aimed at the Federal Communications Commission and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. One would create a council to seek improvements for the security and reliability of U.S. communications networks, including those used by major telecom companies such as AT&T and Verizon. Another directs its focus on Chinese telecom giants, such as ZTE and Huawei.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they address China’s dominance in the telecommunications realm.
  • For U.S. officials working to counter China’s long-term impact on America’s national security.
  • For legislators and advisors who seek to shift away from the reliance of American telecom businesses on Chinese hardware, or other manufactured items and raw materials.
