HHS Reports Decrease in Opioid Deaths

President Trump’s efforts to address substance use disorders continued under the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a new analysis from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) that indicates a record-low overall age-adjusted death rate for 2025, as well as significant progress in the ongoing opioid epidemic. The findings show that efforts by President Trump’s administration to reduce unnecessary opioid prescriptions, combat illegal fentanyl, and strengthen drug treatment and recovery have led to a significant decrease in opioid-related deaths.

According to an accompanying analysis, opioid dispensing dropped 45.3 percent from the March 2015 baseline, the total number of opioid doses dispensed fell to 35.2 percent of the baseline, and the number of patients filling prescriptions to treat substance use disorders rose to 218 percent of the baseline.

“President Trump has attacked the opioid crisis from every direction — rightsizing opioid prescribing, disrupting the fentanyl supply chain, and expanding treatment and recovery,” said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “Those actions are saving lives and driving opioid deaths to the lowest in nearly a decade. We will keep pressing forward until every American struggling with addiction has a real path to recovery and a chance to rebuild a healthy life.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump as he seeks to prevent drug overdoses and end the opioid crisis in the U.S.
  • For Secretary Kennedy as he oversees HHS efforts to support the president in addressing opioid addiction and misuse.
  • With gratitude to the Lord for the lives that have been saved due to border security, drug, and prescription policy changes.
