At a White House press conference, administration officials discussed visa policies that replaced American workers.
Vice President JD Vance was joined by Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling and Labor Department Inspector General Anthony D’Esposito in announcing the suspension of Microsoft, Adobe, and six India-based information technology companies from the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) program. The program allows businesses to apply for permanent residency for foreign workers they employ on H-1B visas.
“If you do the math, for every worker that Microsoft laid off, they replaced that worker with one and a half foreign indentured servants,” the vice president stated. “Our message to Microsoft is: You’re a great American company, but you’ve to hire great American workers. You cannot lay off American workers and then replace them with foreign indentured servants.”
“Since 2009, just these companies alone have requested almost 3 million foreign workers. They’ve received over 230,000 H-1B visa approvals and over 100,000 permanent labor certifications,” Secretary Sonderling said. “That’s hundreds of thousands of jobs that were taken from American workers.”
