The one-day stand-down must take place before October 15, and will occur during every election year in the future.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered a one-day stand-down to allow military members time to vote in the upcoming midterm elections. The stand-down is to occur no later than October 15 and is expected to happen every election year from now on.
Secretary Hegseth stated, “The Department of War is committed to ensuring that all service members and their eligible family members can exercise their right to vote.“ He attributed the one-day stand-down to President Donald Trump.
“We’re not telling you who to vote for, but we will give you every opportunity to do so,” the defense secretary stated in a video on social media. “You are the best citizens of our country, and therefore you should have every opportunity to exercise your right to vote.”
“We’re doing this because in the past, voting, for our men and women in uniform, has been time-consuming and complex,” Secretary Hegseth explained. He also asserted that “all voting assistance activities must remain strictly nonpartisan.”
Last month, the defense secretary instructed U.S. Cyber Command and other intelligence personnel to mobilize “every authorized asset“ to protect the midterm elections from foreign interference.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Hegseth as he implements the president’s national defense strategies.
- For President Trump as he serves as the commander-in-chief over U.S. military forces.
- For discernment for American service members as they exercise their right to vote in the midterms.
