Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

President Trump announced new fuel economy standards last week and the termination of the 2021 executive order that would have required half of new vehicles to be electric by 2030. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said that the “Freedom Means Affordable Cars” initiative projected that the average cost of a new vehicle will be reduced by $1,300 and save approximately $138 billion over five years.

Pray for the president and the transportation secretary as they seek to reduce the affordability and environmental impact of new vehicles.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

The Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act this week. Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz of Texas and Ranking Member Maria Cantwell of Washington introduced the bill to codify and protect the rights of student athletes to earn money from their name, image, and likeness (NIL). Senator Cruz stated, “It creates clear, enforceable rules for eligibility and transfers. It protects our traditions and rivalries. It prevents the most powerful and wealthy conference from breaking away to form a super league. But most importantly, it protects our student athletes.”

Pray for members of the Senate and House as they address protections for American student athletes and seek to maintain order among academic sports.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, chaired by Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, advanced the nomination of President Trump’s third nominee for surgeon general, Nicole Saphier. The confirmation vote before the full Senate will take place after the midterm elections next month.

Pray for chairs and members of Senate committees as they hold confirmation hearings and question the president’s nominees for various federal roles.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Supreme Court granted a stay and announced it will hear an appeal to the legal challenge of the policy of President Trump’s administration to remove illegal aliens to third-party nations. The Department of Homeland Security may continue the third-country removals in the interim. The policy was a response to concerns that immigrants could be in danger in their home countries or whose native countries would not accept them. While oral arguments are scheduled for December, the court’s decision will likely be released next year.

Pray for the justices of the Supreme Court as they add cases to their fall term and consider challenges to the president’s immigration enforcement policies.
