DHS Secretary Discusses Illegal Alien Detentions

He addresses the fact that Congress set the immigration laws and asks “what level of criminal activity” critics are willing to accept.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Maykwayne Mullin recently addressed criticisms of federal immigration enforcement detaining illegal immigrants who are not violent criminals.

Secretary Mullin said it is not true that illegal immigrants are not criminals. He explained, “Every one of them was criminals because they broke their nation’s laws when they came across our borders illegally.”

He continued, “So what level of criminal activity are you willing to accept? We are tasked with enforcing the nation’s laws. I can’t repeat this enough. I don’t pick and choose. Our men and women that chose to serve this country and work for the Department of Homeland Security… we don’t pick and choose.”

Secretary Mullin added, “The Congress is the one who set those laws. We are enforcing them. And when you broke the law and you came into this country illegally, you chose to become a criminal at that point.”

The department also announced that there have been zero catch-and-release instances along the U.S.-Mexico border in the past 16 months.

“Border security starts with knowing who and what is entering our country – and controlling it on behalf of the American people,” said Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott. “That means people who cross illegally are apprehended, detained, and removed – not released into the United States. Our agents are enforcing that standard every day.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Mullin and officers in DHS, CBP, and ICE as they seek to uphold federal immigration laws.
  • For Commissioner Scott as he heads Customs and Border Protection and border security personnel.
