Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
The U.S. State Department has paused visa application appointments across all U.S. embassies to accommodate global training initiatives. The department stated that the effort is intended to ensure that visa applicants are evaluated “comprehensively and consistently.” President Trump’s administration has increased its focus on screening visa applicants for indications that they may depend on U.S. public benefits.
Pray for Secretary Rubio and U.S. officials as they seek to prevent foreign nationals who come into the country on visas from relying on public assistance.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, a doctor who is chair of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, issued a report that accuses abortion pill manufacturers of failing to comply with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) safety regulations. The committee’s months-long investigation determined that, particularly for mifepristone pills sold through third-party online providers, three manufacturers have not met their legal obligations regarding medication safety for mail-order access. The report urges legal and regulatory action by the Justice Department and the FDA.
Pray for senators and representatives as they seek to ensure manufacturers comply with health and product safety regulations.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
House Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan of Ohio and Tom McClintock of California are investigating the Fairfax County Attorney, who has withheld information requested by the committee. The legislators are probing allegations of preferential treatment toward illegal aliens who are charged with crimes. In one case, regardless of police warnings, the attorney’s office dropped most of the charges and freed a foreign national who later committed murder. In another case, two illegal immigrants who pleaded guilty to murder are serving only 5 years in prison due to a plea deal from the attorney’s office.
Pray for chairs and members of House and Senate committees as they investigate and work to uphold the law and its enforcement by public officials.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
A split panel of the District of Columbia U.S. Court of Appeals recently overturned a jury ruling that penalized an undercover reporter with $130,000 in damages. Circuit Judge Karen LeCraft Henderson wrote for the majority, “The principal question in this appeal is whether the jury’s damages award violated the First Amendment by punishing the defendants for publishing a news story. We conclude that it did.”
Pray for district and circuit court judges as they hear cases that question protections under the Bill of Rights, including freedom of speech under the First Amendment.
