Issue 765 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Department of Justice has appealed the dismissal of its case against Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a circuit court. The department cited that the illegal alien, who was deported to and then returned from El Salvador, was allegedly involved in human smuggling for profit. While a district court previously released the man based on a presumption of prosecutorial vindictiveness, the Supreme Court has held that such overly broad interpretations may block legitimate legal proceedings for criminal conduct.

Pray for Attorney General Blanche and DOJ officials as they seek to uphold federal law and hold human traffickers, including illegal alien smugglers, accountable for their crimes.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana introduced the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act, which would allow elite special operations veterans nationwide firearm carry privileges similar to those permitted to trained and vetted law enforcement officers under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004. Representative Pat Harrigan of North Carolina introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives this spring.

Pray for senators and representatives in Congress to be prudent as they evaluate the public safety implications of allowing nationwide concealed carry across state lines for special forces veterans.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The House Ethics Committee, chaired by Representative Michael Guest of Mississippi, is investigating Congressman Jimmy Gomez of California due to the legislator possibly having “engaged in sexual misconduct in violation of the Code of Official Conduct or any other applicable standard of conduct, including engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with a House staffer.” The Ethics Committee has most recently investigated Congressman Max Miller for domestic violence and illicit drug use. Representative Chuck Edwards of North Carolina dropped his bid for reelection after an ethics investigation into sexual harassment allegations resulted in a recommendation for his censure.

Pray for the members of the House Ethics Committee to act with integrity as they investigate alleged violations of House rules regarding representatives’ conduct.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

A federal judge placed a temporary stay against the Department of Homeland Security’s subpoena of five years of Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Information System records for roughly 17 million commercial drivers. The federal agency is trying to determine the licensing standards and compliance with English-proficiency requirements of non-domiciled commercial drivers by states and CDL schools. The District of Columbia joined 21 state attorneys general in challenging DHS’ request for access to the information on privacy grounds.

Pray for the federal judge as he considers the privacy challenge to the government’s request for CDL information to ensure semi-trucks are driven by qualified drivers.
