The new system is intended to streamline the probate process, reduce delays, and improve transparency.
The Department of the Interior launched the Electronic Probate System last month to modernize the management of Trust Estate Services probate cases for American Indian and Alaskan Native families. The digital platform will allow beneficiaries to securely connect directly with federal government personnel, replacing paper-based processing with an end-to-end electronic workflow. The system is expected to reduce delays, improve efficiency, transparency, customer service, and government-to-government collaboration.
“Every family deserves a probate process that is efficient, transparent, and worthy of the trust placed in the federal government,” said Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Billy Kirkland. “The Electronic Probate System modernizes a critical service by reducing unnecessary paperwork, improving accountability, and helping us process cases more quickly while maintaining the careful human review that these important decisions require.”
