The $20 billion budget is intended to make necessary renovations to the airport.
President Donald Trump and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced plans this week for the renovation of Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
President Trump stated that the renovations are necessary because Dulles is currently “one of the worst airports anywhere in the world,” according to consumer satisfaction surveys. The president stated that regardless of your political party, “you don’t want to go and be subjected to this airport because this airport is a terrible place to be.”
President Trump reviewed over 30 proposals over the last several months surrounding the upgrades needed for the airport. Changes to be made to the airport include enhanced entry into the airport; new, modernized concourses; additional gates; new AeroTrain connections to make it easier for travelers to move between terminals; improved walkability; and a new state-of-the-art baggage handling system.
The project is expected to take years to complete and cost over $20 billion. It is being financed by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, as well as airlines.
