U.S. Exits Paris Climate Accord

Nation to focus on its own emission reduction rather than global agreement.

Regardless of the results of election day, the United States will no longer be a member of the Paris Climate Accord as of Wednesday. The agreement, which was entered into by the Obama Administration, sought to have the U.S. partner with other nations around the world to limit carbon emissions to curb the effects of climate change.

President Trump stated in 2017, “Compliance with the terms of the Paris Accord and the onerous energy restrictions it has placed on the United States could cost America as much as 2.7 million lost jobs by 2025 according to the National Economic Research Associates. As someone who cares deeply about the environment, which I do, I cannot in good conscience support a deal that punishes the United States – which is what it does – the world’s leader in environmental protection, while imposing no meaningful obligations on the world’s leading polluters.”

Though the U.S. greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced to roughly 12% of what they were in 2005, emissions around the globe have increased by double that figure. If former Vice President Joe Biden wins the election, he has promised that he would rejoin the agreement.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would use the president to protect the environment.
  • For the president to be given wisdom on the best treaties to enter into going forward.
  • That God would guide the Environmental Protection Agency in stewarding His creation.
