The press secretary said that Iran made a “very tragic decision” to violate the memorandum of understanding.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt returned from maternity leave this week and provided an update on Thursday regarding Iran. She said that the regime is “not the once very strong, powerful terrorist state that they were” since Operation Epic Fury.
Press Secretary Leavitt said, “Iran very much continues to talk to the United States of America and express that they want to make a deal with us, because they are suffering devastating blows” from the U.S. military.
Leavitt explained, “In the memorandum of understanding that they signed, they were not to fire on commercial vessels moving through the Strait of Hormuz. And, unfortunately, they have made the tragic decision for them to do that.”
The press secretary added, “President Trump is not going to sit by and allow these active acts of terrorism to take place in the Strait without ensuring Iran pays consequences for that, and that’s what we are witnessing right now.”
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the fifth consecutive day of strikes just after the White House briefing. CENTCOM reported firing on an unladen ship earlier this week that ignored U.S. warnings and tried to reach an Iranian port despite the blockade.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Press Secretary Leavitt as she provides updates on the actions of the president’s administration.
- For wisdom for President Trump as commander-in-chief of the U.S. military.
- For protection for U.S. service members deployed in the Middle East.
