Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
The Department of Justice announced a settlement with a California towing company that habitually violated the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) by auctioning off vehicles owned by U.S. military personnel on active duty without a court order. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon of the Civil Rights Division stated, “For far too long, tow companies have sold or disposed of servicemembers’ vehicles in violation of federal law. This settlement sends a strong message that all towing companies must recognize servicemembers’ rights and take the necessary steps to comply with the SCRA.”
Pray for Acting Attorney General Blanche, Assistant Attorney General Dhillon, and DOJ officials as they seek to protect the rights of military members serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Senators Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Mike Rounds of South Dakota are vocal opponents of the Sunshine Protection Act, which was recently passed by the House of Representatives. The legislation, which seeks to stop the twice-yearly time change, would permit states to opt out. However, concerns regarding the failed attempt at permanent Daylight Saving Time in the 1970s, as well as the fact that children would be waiting in the dark for their morning school bus pickup in winter, have caused Majority Leader John Thune to question whether or not the measure could reach the 60-vote threshold it needs to pass in the Senate.
Pray for discernment for members of the Senate as they consider the Sunshine Protection Act.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
The Senate Appropriations Committee, chaired by Senator Susan Collins of Maine, heard testimony this week from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine, and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. The administration officials testified regarding supplemental funding requests to sustain “military personnel, operations and maintenance expenses, and to accelerate investments in critical technologies and munitions production,” and to increase agricultural assistance.
Pray for members of the Senate Appropriations Committee as they evaluate the administration’s request for supplemental funding.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
Federal Judge John D. Bates ruled that the Digital Equity Act signed into law in 2021 violates the Constitution by basing federal funding awards on race. The judge decided that the high-speed internet grant program may continue to be enacted without the racial aspects of determining funding. The lawsuit against the cancellation of a $25.7 million grant last year by President Trump’s administration will proceed with other claims.
Pray for federal justices and judges as they hear and decide cases related to racial discrimination and equality under the Constitution.
