President Trump Lifts Sanctions from Turkey at NATO Summit

He indicated that the U.S. is considering readmitting Turkey to the F-35 fighter jet program.

President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would lift sanctions on Turkey, the host of the two-day NATO summit. The sanctions were imposed after Turkey purchased a $2.5 billion missile defense system from Russia in 2019. The U.S. also kicked Turkey out of the F-35 fighter jet program.

The lifting of these sanctions under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act begins the process of Turkey’s readmission to the U.S. F-35 program. “It’s time,” President Trump said during a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “We don’t want to sanction friends.”

“Turkey’s been, in many ways, much more loyal than other countries that we think would be loyal,” President Trump said during a press conference. “Sometimes you get along with the toughest people, like [Erdogan].”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump to be led by the Lord as he assesses the relationships the U.S. has with its allies.
  • For wisdom for the president and members of his administration as they discuss agreements with other countries.
