I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. – Psalm 32:8
“All the way my Savior leads me, what have I to ask beside?” This hymn by Fannie Crosby, one of thousands she composed, is an acknowledgment of her teachable spirit. She knew that God had mapped out her life’s journey. He has done the same for you. The Lord desires to be your guide, to shift you from wherever you are now to where you are ultimately going. He knows the dangers, the pitfalls, the necessary detours. God is with you all the way, but the extent to which He guides you depends on you.
An old Sunday School chorus for children states, “My Lord knows the way through the wilderness. All I have to do is follow.” Tomorrow is a wilderness. Though you may think you know what is ahead of you, you really don’t. You can plan, but unless God is in your plans and has ordained them for you to walk in, you have no assurance they will be accomplished. Your hope for the future rests in Him, “guiding you, teaching you, counseling you.”
Have you embraced the Lord as your guide? Are you submitting yourself to His leading, or are you trying to forge your own way? Spend time in His Word, in prayer, in praise and thanksgiving. Listen and let Him take the lead while you follow. Intercede for those who are having a hard time listening to what God has to say to them, that they will recognize all other options as futile and seek Him.
