VERSE OF THE WEEK
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5:1
Liberty in Christ
The United States is celebrating the semiquincentennial anniversary of its independence this year! Events are occurring nationwide to commemorate the country’s 250th birthday on July 4th. What does freedom mean to you? Some view liberty as the absence of political or religious oppression. Others may see it as a right to live as they please without someone dictating their actions. However, regardless of the country in which one lives, each person is under some form of authority. For Christ-followers, this authority is found in the Word of God. Scripture teaches you to submit to the Lord and what He is doing in your life. As you learn to yield to Him, you receive strength and power through the Holy Spirit to live free from spiritual bondage. You are liberated to worship, to recognize and avoid sin, to seek forgiveness when needed, and to pray. As you celebrate this special Independence Day, ask God how He wants you to use your freedom… then cheerfully obey Him!
