President Trump Pauses DNI Confirmation Process Over SAVE America Act

Trump Resolute Desk
The Senate had determined to separate the FISA authorization from the election integrity legislation.

President Donald Trump decided to pause his nomination of Jay Clayton for Director of National Intelligence (DNI) on Wednesday after Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota announced his chamber would separate the SAVE America Act from the measure to extend Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

President Trump stated, “For the Good of the Nation, and the People of our Country, I will not approve FISA without THE SAVE AMERICA ACT going along with it.”

The president continued, “Regarding the approval of our Great Patriot, Jay Clayton, we are canceling the Senate Hearing RE: DNI today, and will not be going forward until Jamie McDonald is approved to be U.S. Attorney. In the meantime, Bill Pulte will remain as the Acting Director of National Intelligence.”

President Trump also called out members of the Senate for opposing the extension of Section 702 of FISA after they pledged to support it if the president chose someone other than Pulte as DNI.

The SAVE America Act would require photo identification and citizenship authorization for voters to cast ballots in federal elections.

Current Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, is set to leave the office June 19.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump to be discerning as he advocates for the election integrity legislation.
  • For Senate Majority Leader Thune to be prudent in his decisions regarding the upper chamber’s consideration of bills and measures.
  • For Acting Director Pulte as he prepares to fill the role of Director of National Intelligence.
  • For healing for Tulsi Gabbard’s husband, Abraham, from bone cancer.
