In the News…

Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin has continued to urge his party to abolish the filibuster to pass legislation that has been approved in the House of Representatives. The current filibuster requires 60 votes to pass bills in the upper chamber of Congress.

After the assassination attempt against President Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Senator Johnson cited “a moment of national danger“ as the Senate minority continued to block funding for the Department of Homeland Security. He said, “This gridlock… cannot go on.“

Senator Johnson has also advocated for eliminating the filibuster so that the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which would institute election integrity reforms, could be passed in the Senate.

Senator Johnson stated his support for the removal of the procedure in anticipation of its demise when the Senate leadership changes parties.
