Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
The Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation brought conspiracy charges against Dr. David Morens, a former advisor to Dr. Anthony Fauci, for the alleged destruction of federal records regarding the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said, “These allegations represent a profound abuse of trust at a time when the American people needed it most – during the height of a global pandemic. … Government officials have a solemn duty to provide honest, well-grounded facts and advice in service of the public interest – not to advance their own personal or ideological agendas.”
Pray for federal justice and law enforcement leaders as they work to ensure the integrity of government officials and the accurate recording of agency actions.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
The Senate has released proposed legislation to fund law enforcement agencies within the Department of Homeland Security through the remainder of President Trump’s second term. The combined reconciliation bills would provide $71.7 bilion to fund the Justice Department, Secret Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Pray for senators and representatives as they deliberate appropriations for federal government agencies and departments.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, unanimously advanced a bill that would require providers of AI companion chatbots to verify users’ ages, banning their use by minors. Sponsored by Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, under the “Guidelines for User Age-verification and Responsible Dialogue” (GUARD) Act, knowingly providing a chatbot to children or adolescents that engages them in sexually explicit behavior, physical violence, or contributes to their death by suicide would become a crime.
Pray for the chair and members of committees in both chambers of Congress as they seek to protect minors from the harms of artificial intelligence chatbots.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
Federal Judge Jeffrey Bryan of the District of Minnesota ruled that the federal prison system must destroy all photographs that depicted a female Muslim inmate without a hijab in 2019. The judge determined it was a violation of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and that, since she wears the head scarf in all “mixed gender spaces” outside of her family, the 2022 replacement mug shot showing her wearing the garment was more relevant to law enforcement.
Pray for federal justices and judges as they hear and rule on cases of the free exercise of religion.
