Issue 744 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is conducting a probe of former National Counterterrorism Director Joe Kent over his alleged leaking of classified information. He recently resigned due to his disagreement with the conclusion of President Trump’s administration that Iran posed an “imminent threat” to U.S. security. The administration had cut the former director out of intelligence briefings due to concerns that he was a leaker.

Pray for FBI officials as they investigate allegations of individuals leaking classified information.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Representatives Robert Garcia of California, Rick Larsen of Washington, and Bennie Thompson of Mississippi have requested that the Homeland Security Office of Inspector General investigate the employment of Corey Lewandowski, who served as a special government employee longer than the mandated 130 days. They also demanded that the department “preserve all documents and communications concerning Mr. Lewandowski’s role within the Department, as well as the Department’s practices, policies, and procedures related to contracting, personnel, and the handling of classified materials, including, but not limited to, social media messages, Signal chats, and other private or personal communications pertaining to DHS matters.”

Pray for federal legislators as they provide oversight of executive branch agencies and departments.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission requesting an investigation into the pricing practices of the Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO) for mortgages, as the company has significantly increased its charge for obtaining credit scores. Senator Hawley stated, “These price increases are most damaging to the Americans who can least afford them. First-time homebuyers bear a disproportionate burden of the cost.” He added that the investigation was to determine “whether the charge is justified by competitive market forces or is instead an exercise of monopoly pricing power.”

Pray for chairs and members of congressional committees as they investigate the potential monopolies of industry sectors by corporations.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

During oral arguments in a case regarding state laws on the counting of mail-in ballots received after Election Day, Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Alito highlighted the “day” in Election Day. Justice Alito said, “We have LOTS of phrases that involve two words, the last of which, the second of which is DAY. Labor DAY, Memorial DAY, George Washington’s birthDAY, Independence DAY, birth DAY, and election DAY! And they’re all particular DAYS. So if we start with that, if I have nothing more to look at than the phrase election day, I think this is the DAY in which everything is going to take place, or almost everything.”

Pray for justices of the Supreme Court as they hear cases regarding election integrity and redistricting.
