He and Senator Cruz call on the congressional minority party to fund the Department of Homeland Security.
President Donald Trump responded to questions this week about Iranian sleeper cells potentially being activated in the U.S. in the wake of the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Attacks by Muslim activists have recently occurred in cities, including: Austin, Texas; Dearborn and West Bloomfield, Michigan; Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia; New York City and Brooklyn.
“I have been (briefed), and a lot of people came in through [the] open border,” President Trump said. “But we know where most of them are. We’ve got our eye on all of them.“
“They’ve been trying for a long time. We’ve been very much on top of it,“ the president said. He continued that the minority party in Congress needs to end the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown.
Senator Ted Cruz of Texas spoke earlier this week about the Iranian sleeper cells, stating, “There is a heightened danger of terrorism right now.“ He also called on his Senate counterparts to fund the Department of Homeland Security “while we are facing an enhanced terrorist risk.”
Senator Cruz said, “The Department of Homeland Security exists to guard against terrorist attacks. The danger has never been higher than right now, particularly after four years of open borders.”
