Senator Introduces Legislation to Ban Chemical Abortion Pills

Senator Hawley called on the U.S. to protect the unborn and the safety and health of pregnant women.

Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has introduced the Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act, which would prohibit the use of mifepristone to end pregnancies. The legislation would withdraw the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the drug and outlaw its distribution.

“The science is clear: The chemical abortion drug is inherently dangerous to women and prone to abuse. Yet major companies like Danco Laboratories are making billions off it,“ Senator Hawley stated. “That’s why I am introducing new legislation to ban the use of mifepristone for abortion and empower women to sue its manufacturers.“

He added that the bill targets “greedy foreign corporations” that are making “billions of dollars in profits by endangering women’s health and shipping to them a drug that they know is dangerous.”

Senator Hawley explained, “Just last year, a major study of 875,000 mifepristone prescriptions drawn from insurance claims data was published showing that in fully 11 percent of cases, women who take the drug Mifepristone for use in an abortion experience a serious adverse health event.”

“That’s the technical term. What it means in practice is internal infections, sepsis, hemorrhaging, a trip to the emergency room. A life-threatening condition,” Senate Hawley continued. “That’s more than one in ten women. And we’re talking about a lot of women. Since 2000, the number of women who have taken this drug for use in an abortion tops 7.5 million. Mifepristone now accounts for 70 percent of the abortions conducted in the United States of America. This is a drug that is incredibly widespread and is inherently dangerous.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Hawley as he promotes the bill to withdraw FDA approval from mifepristone to protect women and spare the lives of unborn babies.
  • For members of the House and Senate as they consider the impact of chemical abortions on women’s health.
  • For President Trump and his administration to protect and uphold the sanctity of life.
