House Passes Updated Version of SAVE Act

The election integrity measure is not expected to be approved in the Senate.

The House of Representatives passed the SAVE America Act, sponsored by Representative Chip Roy of Texas, on Thursday. The updated legislation proposes that voters be required to show valid identification and either a birth certificate or passport to prove citizenship status when going to vote.

“It’s just common sense. Americans need an ID to drive, to open a bank account, to buy cold medicine [and] to file for government assistance,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said. “So, why would voting be any different than that?”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the upper chamber lacks enough support to reach the 60 votes required to meet the filibuster. Some have suggested changing the rule to a standing filibuster so that the measure could pass through a simple majority.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Majority Leader Thune to be wise as he presides over the Senate.
  • For prudence for Speaker Johnson as he heads the lower chamber of Congress.
  • For members of the Senate as they consider the measure to safeguard the federal election process.
