Energy Department Convenes First National Coal Council Meeting Under Renewed Charter

The NCC once again holds an essential role, informing America’s coal policy.

The Department of Energy recently convened the first National Coal Council (NCC) meeting under a renewed charter. After a nearly four-year hiatus, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright reestablished the council to inform key coal policy. This follows President Donald Trump’s Executive Order “Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry,“ which directed an increase in domestic energy production, stating that coal is an “abundant and cost-effective” resource.

“The Trump Administration has already saved more than 15 GW of reliable coal power from shutting down and is working alongside American workers and the entire coal industry to ensure coal continues to be mined in the United States and continues to help provide reliable power to the American people,“ Secretary Wright said. “I look forward to working with the National Coal Council as it helps guide the Department’s efforts to strengthen America’s energy security and grid reliability.”

The Energy Department announced that four workshops will be held to compile recommendations and input from members of the coal industry, which will ensure that future programs “reflect market realities, workforce needs, and technological progress.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Wright as he seeks to strengthen domestic energy production at President Trump’s direction.
  • For U.S. energy officials as they reestablish the National Coal Council.
  • For the council leadership to be discerning as they guide the nation’s coal policies.
