Issue 736 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Justice Department announced that charges have been brought against a total of 87 criminals, many of whom are members of Tren de Aragua (TdA), for an automatic teller machine (ATM) “jackpotting” scheme using malware. “A large ring of criminal aliens allegedly engaged in a nationwide conspiracy to enrich themselves and the TdA terrorist organization by ripping off American citizens,” stated Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. “After committing bank robbery, fraud, and other serious crimes, they will be vigorously prosecuted and held accountable for their crimes.”

Pray for Attorney General Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Blanche to be discerning as they oversee the prosecution of criminal aliens.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senate Majority Leader John Thune scheduled a procedural vote for Thursday on the funding lackage already passed by the House of Representatives. Funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and Border Patrol, has been a topic of stringent debate in the upper chamber of Congress since the recent shooting of an activist in Minneapolis by a Border Patrol agent. The current funding resolution will expire on January 30, and will lead to a partial government shutdown if the Senate does not pass the spending bills.

Pray for the majority and minority leaders in the Senate as they navigate funding discussions.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by Senator Jim Risch of Idaho, heard testimony from Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the administration’s policies toward Venezuela. The panel members probed the operations that captured Nicolas Maduro and the seizures of the sanctioned oil tankers and the administration’s stance going forward. Secretary Rubio stated, “Our anticipation is that we are going to be able to work cooperatively with them [Venezuela] because its in their interest and ours.”

Pray for chairs and members of congressional committees as they hold hearings and provide oversight to executive agencies and departments.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Eighth Circuit U.S Court of Appeals formally stayed an injunction from a district judge that imposed enforcement restrictions on federal agents. The appellate court also refused to reinstate those limitations after the activist was shot and killed by a federal agent over the weekend in Minnesota. The panel determined that the judge’s injunction was too broad and too vague, and cited Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s declaration that “federal courts do not exercise general oversight of the Executive Branch.”

Pray for federal judges as they hear challenges to President Trump’s actions and attempts to enforce immigration laws.
