Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
President Donald Trump issued an executive order last month that starts the process of designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, citing chapters in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt as posing a threat to U.S. national security interests. “They sponsor terrorism, murder, and mayhem across the planet,” said U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. “They are a very negative and destructive force, and it’s very important for the United States to use its power and influence to call them out for what they are.”
Pray for the president and U.S. diplomats as they seek to secure the nation against terrorism.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii introduced the Kids Off Social Media Act, which has received bipartisan support from Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Katie Britt of Alabama as well as Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut. Senator Schatz said, “Australia is stepping up to protect kids from the addictive and harmful content being constantly fed to them on social media. It’s now time for Congress to do the same.” While Australia’s ban is for children under 16, this legislation would apply to those under 13.
Pray for members of the Senate as they consider the bill to protect adolescents from social media.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
Members of congressional committees on defense are seeking more information on the president’s Golden Dome plan. Representative Mike Rogers of Alabama, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said that while they are “starting to get a better idea of what it’s going to look like,” it still is not 100 percent complete or clear. Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, ranking member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, said he supports the goal of improving the nation’s defense against missile threats, but that the Golden Dome is currently a vague promise.
Pray for senators and representatives on congressional committees as they evaluate and deliberate over the nation’s plans for defense.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
A district judge in central California recently threw out a class action lawsuit against a retailer due to the plaintiff’s attorney overlooking the arbitration-only clause for online purchases to which buyers agree before ordering. The judge also sanctioned the law firm partners for engaging in a frivolous class action suit “in bad faith.” The plaintiff’s suit had falsely claimed the purchase was made at a brick-and-mortar store.
Pray for wisdom for federal judges as they hear and rule on cases involving false advertising and consumer laws.
