Chief of Staff General Randy George presided over the ceremony at Fort Bragg in North Carolina that concluded the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) and established the Western Hemisphere Command.
General George said. “FORSCOM’s story is about adaptation and perpetual vigilance, and I think we’re going to build up that legacy today.”
General George said, since its establishment in 1973, FORSCOM became the “backbone of American landpower, training, mobilizing, deploying and sustaining a readiness of our organizations.”
The Western Hemisphere Command will support homeland defense, defense support to civil authorities, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, theater security cooperation, and provide continued support to the Immediate Response Force groups while ensuring the ability of the Army to mobilize and employ reserve component forces to secure American interests and security in the Western Hemisphere.
The action aligns with the April order from Secretary Pete Hegseth to update and restructure the U.S. military “to build a leaner, more lethal force.”
