Issue 731 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

President Donald Trump signed a proclamation last week that expanded the U.S. travel ban to include five additional countries. Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria are now among those nations with full entry restrictions. The White House cited ongoing failures to meet U.S. security and vetting standards by those governments.

Pray for discernment for the president and U.S. national and homeland security officials as they assess the threats posed by foreign nationals.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas said that the healthcare overhaul he proposed would remove Affordable Care Act subsidies from insurance companies and put the money in patients’ hands. The proposal would extend the Obamacare subsidies for one year with reforms that counter fraud and lower costs.

Pray for senators and representatives as they consider the extension of the healthcare subsidies.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The House Education and Workforce Committee, chaired by Representative Tim Walberg of Michigan, approved legislation introduced by Representative Mark Harris of North Carolina that would clarify language in the Higher Education Act to end discrimination against homeschooled high school graduates. “No student should ever face discrimination or disadvantage during the college admissions process simply because they were homeschooled,” Congressman Harris said of the Homeschool Graduation Recognition Act. “Yet, many universities still treat homeschoolers as second-class applicants by requiring excessive documentation and additional testing.”

Pray for chairs and members of congressional committees as they seek to ensure acts and laws are appropriately interpreted and applied.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

A federal judge from the District of Columbia U.S. District Court placed a temporary injunction against the policy of President Trump’s administration that requires members of Congress to submit requests a week ahead of visits to Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facilities. She wrote that appropriations law “does entitle Members of Congress to access ICE facilities without being subject to a notice requirement.”

Pray for federal judges as they issue rulings regarding U.S. immigration enforcement and detention.
