Scott Kenneth Homer Bessent was born in August 1962 in Conway, South Carolina. He earned an undergraduate degree from Yale University. He
He went into a financial career, becoming head of the Soros Fund Management’s London office. He founded an investment firm of his own, Key Square Group, in 2015.
Bessent was appointed by President Donald Trump to be the Secretary of the Treasury in November 2024. He was confirmed by the Senate and sworn into office in January 2025.
He is married to John Freeman, they have two children. He belongs to the Huguenot Church.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that President Trump will soon be making some cuts to agricultural tariffs.
“You’re going to see some substantial announcement over the next couple of days in terms of things we don’t grow here in the United States,” said Secretary Bessent
He continued, “Coffee being one of them. Bananas, other fruits, things like that. That will bring the prices down very quickly.”
The treasury secretary also stated, “The president’s talking about a $2,000 rebate, and that would be for families making less than, say, $100,000.”
Secretary Bessent predicted that inflation will cool and wages will increase in the new year. He said Americans “are going to start feeling better.”
