Interior Department Adds Fertilizer Minerals to Critical List

Secretary Burgum makes additions that legislators hope will ease farmers’ struggles.

The Interior Department has released the finalized list of critical minerals for 2025, including the additions of phosphate and potash, two materials used extensively in fertilizers. This follows months of disruption to American farmer’s access to fertilizer, which has been aggravated by multiple factors, including restricted exports from China.

In a letter they sent in September, members of the Senate and House commended the Interior secretary for the addition of potash to the critical minerals list, while also outlining concerns over phosphate’s absence, stating that the impacts of market volatility and supply pressures tied to phosphate availability were already impacting farmers nationwide.

Secretary Burgum stated, “In 2017, President Trump set a goal of first identifying and then securing the mineral resources needed to bolster America’s economy and national security. The 2025 List of Critical Minerals provides a clear, data-driven roadmap to reduce our dependence on foreign adversaries, expand domestic production, and unleash American innovation.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Burgum to be led by the Lord as he heads the Department of the Interior.
  • For members of Congress as they express national concerns to federal agency leaders.
