The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee also needs to sign off on the project.
The Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee approved a plan that would allow the Federal Bureau of Investigation to move its headquarters to the Reagan Building and International Trade Center, located in Washington, D.C. The funding would repair and renovate the building to serve as an updated headquarters for the FBI, merging 6,000 workers who are currently spread across the Washington, D.C. area.
The General Services Administration (GSA) estimates the project will require $1.4 billion. The agency requested that Congress allow the reallocation of $844 million of already-appropriated funding for the project. Another $555 million is set to be provided by the FBI.
The committee also approved a $95 million upgrade for fire alarms and other safety features in the Reagan Building, and $36 million in repairs to wall systems and an atrium skylight.
This approval pivots away from the decision of the previous administration to build a new headquarters in Maryland.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the chairs and members of the congressional committees as they approve federal projects.
- For the president and his administration as they seek to increase government efficiency.
