BOEM Reconsiders Approval of New York Offshore Wind Project

Residents and businesses in the area have already filed a lawsuit to stop the project.

The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management notified a federal court that it is reviewing approvals for the construction and operation of an offshore wind project near New York and New Jersey. Area residents and businesses have filed a lawsuit to halt the Empire Wind 2 project.

The Interior Department has affirmed its commitment to the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to balance the needs surrounding energy projects on coastal federal waters. The department launched a review of the Renewable Energy Modernization Rule earlier this year.

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum stated, “We’re taking a results-driven approach that prioritizes reliability, strengthens national security and upholds both scientific integrity and responsible environmental stewardship.”

The Empire Wind 1 project has proceeded after being temporarily halted by President Trump’s administration earlier this year.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Burgum as he facilitates the review of energy rules and regulations.
  • For Acting Director Matt Giacona as he oversees the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
