Speaker Johnson says the ball is in the Senate’s court and has the House of Representatives in recess.
Senate legislators reconvened on Monday to continue working through the ongoing funding standoff. The government shutdown began last week, with the minority party insisting that healthcare funding be included in the legislation.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson stated on Sunday that the ball was in his opponents’ court to approve the continuing resolution crafted in his chamber.
“The reason that House Republicans are home working in their districts, and I suspect House Democrats should be as well, is because we did that. We passed a bipartisan, very clean, continuing resolution a couple of weeks back now and sent it to the Senate,” Speaker Johnson said.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer alleged that the House was adjourned to prevent them from voting on a resolution to disclose the Epstein files and to keep them from also participating in budget negotiations with the Senate.
Senator Schumer said, “We’ve been trying for months and months to sit down with them and have a serious conversation addressing America’s health care needs. And they’ve refused and refused and refused.” He said that only a meeting with President Trump will resolve the impasse.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the Senate Majority and Minority Leaders to negotiate government funding in good faith.
- For Speaker Johnson to seek God’s guidance as he presides over the lower chamber of Congress.
