Issue 772 – Verse of the Week

October 8th – October 14th, 2026

VERSE OF THE WEEK

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  – Matthew 9:36

In Need of the Shepherd

Jesus stated that humanity is like sheep. Sheep are unable to navigate and easily become lost. They cannot bear loads or carry burdens. And sheep are defenseless – they need someone to shield or remove them from danger. Sheep need a shepherd, someone to guide them, nurture them, provide for them, and protect them. The Psalmist wrote, “Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us and we are his, we are his people and the sheep of his pasture” (Psalm 100:3). Jesus called Himself “the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). The prophet Isaiah said, “All we like sheep have gone astray” (Isaiah 53:6). David reminds you that the Lord is your shepherd and in Him you have everything you need (Psalm 23). Be grateful today that you are a part of the sheepfold of God, and pray for those who deny that they need Him.
