Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
Attorney General Todd Blanche said that election monitors being deployed by the Department of Justice to polling places throughout the United States were not armed federal agents. The attorney general called such statements “fearmongering” and “false,” adding, “They’re going to every state to make sure that our elections are carried out legally, fairly, and appropriately.” While the typical deployment is between 200 and 800, the Justice Department is sending approximately 1,000 monitors across the nation.
Pray for Attorney General Blanche and officials in the Justice Department as they seek to ensure election integrity and security for the midterms.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Senators Rick Scott of Florida and Ted Budd of North Carolina introduced the Strengthened Checks for Reliable Evaluation of Entrants Nationwide (SCREEN) Act last month to prevent foreign child predators from obtaining visas to enter the U.S. The legislation would grant the Departments of State and Homeland Security access to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children database for visa application reviews. Senator Scott said the U.S. “should have 100% certainty that we aren’t letting child predators come here on work visas.”
Pray for senators as they craft and introduce legislation to prevent foreign child predators from obtaining visas to enter the U.S.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust, chaired by Representative Scott Fitzgerald of Wisconsin, sent letters over the summer to executives at Compass International Holdings, the nation’s largest real-estate brokerage, and Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED) for a future hearing regarding their private listing network partnership for home sales. Chair Fitzgerald wrote, “This partnership, and the expansion of [Private Listing Networks] more generally, has raised concerns about the information that will be available to consumers and the effect that it could have on housing affordability.”
Pray for members of the House antitrust subcommittee as they investigate monopolistic actions by companies in the real estate sector to ensure Americans have access to available home listings.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
Federal Judge Ann Donnelly rejected a request from China’s Huawei Technologies to dismiss the U.S. government’s charges that the company engaged in criminal behavior, including stealing technology and engaging in racketeering, wire and bank fraud. The judge wrote that the request for dismissal was premature “because it is not yet clear what the defendant did.”
Pray for the judges and justices in the federal courts as they consider the government’s RICO charges against foreign-owned companies.
