The 84-year-old senator’s health issue was not reported.
Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. The 84-year-old senator, who has experienced a variety of health challenges in the past few years, was most recently hospitalized in February with flu-like symptoms.
The senator’s spokesperson stated on Sunday, “Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care.”
A polio survivor, Senator McConnell announced in 2025 that he would not seek reelection. He was elected to the Senate in 1984 and served as majority leader from 2015 to 2021.
Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina stated, “Join me in lifting Senator McConnell in prayer for a swift recovery. Grateful to hear he is receiving excellent care from his medical team, and we look forward to seeing him in the Senate halls soon.”
