Jay Clayton receives bipartisan support as FISA Section 207 lapsed.
The Senate Intelligence Committee, chaired by Senator Tom Cotton, is holding the confirmation hearing for President Trump’s nominee for Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Jay Clayton, currently U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
President Trump named William Pulte, currently the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, as the acting DNI, a move that stirred some controversy. Members of Congress backed away from extending Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which led to its lapse on June 12.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota said Mr. Clayton could be approved by the committee as early as Thursday.
Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, ranking member on the committee, said, “We will get Clayton, I hope, confirmed as quickly as possible. We will then move very quickly to get FISA reauthorized.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Senate Majority Leader Thune to seek God’s guidance as he presides over the upper chamber of Congress.
- For Senators Cotton and Warner as they head the confirmation hearing for Mr. Clayton.
- For President Trump to be led by the Lord as he appoints individuals to federal positions.
