SAMHSA Invests in 988 Lifeline Operations

The nonprofit organization Vibrant has received $255 million to help administer the 988 Lifeline.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced that it has granted $255 million to help administer the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. This funding was granted to Vibrant, a non-profit affiliate of Mental Health America of New York City, which helped to launch the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in 2005.

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. stated, “HHS is committed to making sure every American facing a mental health or substance use crisis can reach the 988 Lifeline and get immediate help. The 988 Lifeline saves lives, strengthens families, and reminds Americans that they are never alone in their darkest moments.”

The 988 Lifeline is a national network that consists of over 200 local crisis contact centers and has received more than 25 million contacts via call, text, chat, and ASL videophone since it was launched. Anyone who is struggling or in crisis is encouraged to call or text 988, or chat on the 988 Lifeline website.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Kennedy to receive God’s guidance as he heads HHS and its agencies.
  • For Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Christopher Carroll as he oversees SAMHSA and the work to help those in a mental health crisis.
  • For God’s strength for the nonprofit personnel and professionals who answer the calls as they administer the services for the 988 Lifeline.
