Education Department Investigates NC School District for Title IX Violations

Congressman Harris thanks the education secretary for responding to his concerns.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) has launched an investigation into the Cabarrus County Schools in North Carolina due to alleged violations of Title IX. The investigation is a response to a request from Representative Mark Harris of North Carolina, who reported the school system allowed males into girls-only intimate spaces.

“Today’s investigation demonstrates that the Trump Administration will not stop pursuing districts that reportedly subject our women and girls to egregious violations of their privacy and safety,” OCR Assistant Secretary Kimberly Richey said. “Under the Trump Administration, no woman or girl will have to fight alone to secure her basic protections, and we will not relent until Title IX is restored to the fullest extent of the law.”

“When students walk through the doors of their school, the last thing they should have to worry about is their safety in bathrooms and locker rooms,” Congressman Harris said. “It should go without saying that these intimate spaces must remain private. The reports my office received from Cabarrus County Schools are deeply disturbing and should concern every parent.”

Representative Harris added, “After bringing these reports directly to the Department of Education, I am grateful for Secretary McMahon’s quick action and for treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For senators and representatives as they seek to protect female students in private spaces.
  • For Secretary McMahon and Assistant Secretary Richey as they oversee investigations into alleged Title IX violations.
