The Vigil of Remembrance: Honoring Those Who Serve and Those We Remember
This vigil is a focused time of prayer for the men and women of our armed forces, for veterans, for military families, and especially on Memorial Day, for those who gave their lives in service to this nation. It is a moment to honor sacrifice, seek God’s protection, and remember that every life offered in service carries profound weight. Memorial Day calls us to pause with humility and gratitude. We remember those who stood in harm’s way, those who never returned home, and the families who carry both pride and loss. As we pray, we honor their memory, lift up those who serve today, and ask God for peace, wisdom, and protection over our nation.
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” — John 15:13
Praying in Honor and Remembrance
- Ask God to shape our hearts to honor and remember those whose lives were given in service
- Pray for comfort, strength, and peace for Gold Star families and all who carry the grief of loss
- Ask God to protect active-duty service members, reservists, and veterans in every season of life
- Intercede for military families, asking for endurance, unity, provision, and emotional strength
- Pray for wisdom in national defense and for peace to prevail wherever conflict threatens lives
Bring Others With You
Invite family or friends to pause with you on Memorial Day and pray by name for service members, veterans, military families, and those whose loved ones never came home.
The journey continues. Thank you for pressing on with others as we lift our leaders and nation in prayer, one voice, joined together.
