USDA Announces 2026 Grant Funding Through Specialty Crop Programs

New federal grants will support innovation, marketing, and production across U.S. specialty crop agriculture.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced more than $275 million in FY2026 funding for specialty crop programs, including research, marketing, and multi-state collaboration initiatives. The funding comes through the Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI), Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP), and Specialty Crop Multi-State Program (SCMP), with increased allocations supported by recent agricultural legislation. Officials said the investments are intended to strengthen competitiveness in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other specialty crops through research, education, and market development.

“The Working Families Tax Cuts provided the largest investment in American agriculture, including boosting support for America’s specialty crop producers. At a time when more Americans are demanding whole, nutritious foods aligned with the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans, at USDA we are ensuring the farmers who grow these foods have the tools necessary to continue their operations,” said Secretary Brooke Rollins.

Representative Tom Barrett of Michigan highlighted the role of congressional funding measures in supporting the agricultural sector and research institutions. The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will administer the programs, with grants distributed to states, universities, tribes, and nonprofit organizations based on eligibility and competition.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Rollins as she advocates for the specialty crop program and support for farmers, researchers, and agricultural communities.
  • For officials in USDA agencies, including NIFA and AMS, as they manage funding distribution and program oversight.
  • For Congressman Barrett as he seeks to strengthen crop production, sustainability, and innovation.
