Iran states that it will not discuss its nuclear program as part of peace talks.
President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that peace talks in Pakistan were canceled. Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner were set to take the long trip to Islamabad for negotiations.
President Trump stated that his representatives would not waste more time traveling. He added, “There is tremendous infighting and confusion within [Iran’s] ‘leadership.‘ Nobody knows who is in charge, including them. Also, we have all the cards, they have none! If they want to talk, all they have to do is call!!!“
After the president canceled the talks, Iran stated that nuclear negotiations were off the table. They insisted on Sunday that the naval blockade be lifted and the war ended before they would, separately, discuss their nuclear program.
President Trump assembled his full national security team on Monday in the Situation Room.
