Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Department of Justice has issued a warning regarding the illegality of potential jurors misrepresenting their intent to impartially consider evidence and testimony after an organization was discovered training people in jury nullification. The activist group is teaching citizens how to position themselves to increase the likelihood they will be selected for jury duty, then vote to acquit defendants, even when they are guilty, in cases brought by the Justice Department as “resistance” to the president’s administration. Under federal law 18 U.S.C. § 1621, the crime of perjury is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Pray for Attorney General Pamela Bondi and Justice Department officials as they seek to ensure the integrity of jury trials.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senator Mike Lee of Utah recently introduced the National Constitutional Carry Act, which would remove the need to receive state governments’ permission to carry a handgun for self-defense. “The Founders established a national right to keep and bear arms, not to ask for permission from hostile local officials or risk imprisonment for crossing the wrong state line,” Senator Lee stated. “If you’re legally allowed to have a gun, you shouldn’t have to get any government’s permission to carry it any more than you should have to get permission to speak. My bill is necessary to protect Americans’ fundamental right to bear arms.”

Pray for senators and representatives as they propose legislation to strengthen and support the Bill of Rights.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, chaired by Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, held a hearing this week called “Transparency and Trust: Exposing Malign Foreign Influence in Higher Education.” The committee heard testimony on how authoritarian regimes in China and the Middle East use financial contributions to infiltrate U.S. schools and advance an anti-America agenda.

Pray for chairs and members of congressional committees as they address concerns facing education and the nation’s future.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

A federal judge has ruled that it was unconstitutional for the Voice of America (VOA) acting CEO to conduct a reduction in force last year. He determined that the layoffs violated the Appointments Clause and the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, since the International Broadcasting Advisory Board lacked a quorum for the removal and replacement of the incumbent VOA executive. The president’s administration is appealing the decision.

Pray for federal judges and justices as they hear cases and rule of challenges to the policies and actions taken by President Trump’s administration.
