President Trump said that the administration will wait until the war in Iran is over.
President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. is preparing to engage with Cuba in the coming days. “Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon, by the way, unrelated, but Cuba is gonna fall too. They want to make a deal so badly,” the president said. When speaking at the White House, he added, “We want to fix, finish this one [the war in Iran] first –, but that will be just a question of time before [Secretary Rubio], and a lot of unbelievable people are going to be going back to Cuba.”
The president continued, “They want to make a deal, and so I’m going to put Marco (Rubio) over there, and we’ll see how that works out. We’re really focused on this one right now. We’ve got plenty of time, but Cuba’s ready — after 50 years.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio also spoke about the issue days prior, “Cuba’s status quo is unacceptable. … They need to make dramatic reforms, and if they want to make those dramatic reforms that open the space for both economic and eventually political freedom for the people of Cuba, obviously the United States would love to see that would be helpful.”
